50 Year Community Vision

The City of Wetaskiwin is undergoing a city-wide visioning process to develop a 50-year community vision through input from all members and segments of the community. Your voice and input is vital to help set the course as we sail into the future. This long-term, community-built vision will help focus and guide future resources and planning for all local groups and organizations, including the City of Wetaskiwin. Being part of our community visioning project gives you a voice and the opportunity to direct the future of community. We need your voice to help shape what our community looks like today, tomorrow and over the next 50 years. Pick one or participate in them all! Your input will directly shape our community vision for the next 50 years.

In addition to sharing your vision through this platform there are four other ways to participate:

  1. Online Survey – Take a short 5-minute survey to help shape the next 50 years for our community. You will be entered to win a $100 gift card to a local business of your choosing! Take the survey here (survey closes Nov. 30).

  2. Vision mural – Pick-up a ceramic tile at locations across the city and express your vision for Wetaskiwin through pictures and/or words. Tiles will be collected and compiled together to create a living vision mural for future display in the community. For more information and where to pick-up your tile, please click here.

  3. Social media – Share your vision for Wetaskiwin through social media using the hashtag #Wetaskiwin2070. Be creative! We want to see videos and photos across all platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube). The most creative post will win a prize and will be featured on the City of Wetaskiwin’s Facebook page later this year.

  4. Write a letter - Community members are encouraged to write a letter to themselves or to their community, to talk about life today and your hopes and vision for the future of Wetaskiwin. Selected letters will be printed and added to the time capsule to be revealed in 2070. Submit your letter by November 30 through email or mail directly to:

All artefacts collected and insights gleaned from these visioning initiatives will be placed into a time capsule and buried at a secret location until 2070. Our intention is to provide a treasure trove of insights and reflections to share what life was like in 2020 and to provide our community’s future historians and community members with material to compare and contrast how close we came to our visioning ideals.
